Our lives bring us many challenges, and often we feel as though we are walking blindly through life, unable to see anything but darkness, as if we were wandering aimlessly and hopelessly through the blackness of night. And in times like these, especially in the world we live in today, it can feel harder than ever to see the light, to hold on to hope, and to believe that better days are still ahead.

The christian poem “Footprints in the Sand” tells of a man who has a dream. He dreams that he is walking along a beach with God, while looking back on all the events of his life. He notices that during the most difficult moments of his life, there is only one set of footprints in the sand. So he asks God: “Lord, why did You leave me alone when I needed You the most?”

God answers him: “My child, I never abandoned you. During those difficult times, when you saw only one set of footprints, it was because I was carrying you in My arms.”

During our darkest moments, we feel alone. We think that God has abandoned us, that He no longer loves us, that He is by our side only when we are perfect and when we are good children.

But it is precisely in those moments that God is most present. And while we ask Him where He is, He gently whispers to us: “Look up, Child!”. This is the light we see shine in the darkness radiating hope and guiding us through the difficulties of our lives. It is the encouragement we need and the love we deserve.
